Sketchbook
Below are photos of all process work and preliminary designs created to help me come to a complete final design of a composition.

Watercolour, Pen and Ink
Sketchbook Drawing
When I started working on the Sunset Palms piece, I started by drawing the composition from its original photograph.

Surrealism
Sketchbook Drawing
While creating my surrealism piece, I have several ideas that I was willing explore. I ended up loving this idea and went on to create it using conte, pencil crayons and charcoal.

Surrealism
Sketchbook Drawing
When I was creating this surrealism idea I had in mind, I found that I wasn't working out in the way I had envisioned it in my head.

Surrealism
Sketchbook Drawing
This is another surrealism idea I had in mind. I liked the way the juxtaposition and other characteristics worked together but ultimately I found that I was missing something.

Surrealism
Sketchbook Drawing
I had many ideas when it came to this composition. I loved the idea within the surrealism of this composition but I found it was very simple and missing an element.

Surrealism
Sketchbook Drawing
This surrealism idea is very similar to some of the other one, but I felt that it would work better if I incorporated it into another idea.

Self Portrait
Sketchbook Drawing
When creating my self portrait, I had a couple of ideas that I wanted to follow through on. I sketched out my ideas to see which ones would bring my vision to life.

I had a couple of ideas I wanted to try out for this project. I sketched out my ideas to see which ones would bring my vision to life.

Self Portrait
Sketchbook Drawing
This symbolic portrait idea involved many symbols and was a take on combining a bunch of different styles of art (such as pop art).

Self Portrait
Sketchbook Drawing
I chose the idea I liked best and tested out some graphite and coloured pencil techniques before I started the good copy.

Self Portrait
Sketchbook Drawing
When working on my self portrait, I did a face study to help me understand the facial features.

Self Portrait
Sketchbook Drawing
I did a sketch studying the values in the human eye. I made sure to pay attention to the highlights and shadows.

Self Portrait
Sketchbook Drawing
I did another facial feature study, this time on the nose. I payed attention to where the highlights and shadows were.

Self Portrait
Sketchbook Drawing
I did a study of the human mouth/lips. I payed attention to where the light created shadows and highlights onto the face.

Self Portrait
Sketchbook Drawing
I also did an ear study to help me with my self portrait. This is from the front view (only see part of the ear).

Self Portrait
Sketchbook Drawing
I did another ear study. This time from the side view instead of the front.

Recycled Art
Sketchbook Drawing
I had an idea to take old pens and scrap fabric to create the sculpture of a palm tree.

Recycled Art
Sketchbook Drawing
Expanding from my other idea, I decided to incorporate the palm tree into fashion instead of making a sculpture.

Recycled Art
Sketchbook Drawing
I wanted to take this photo I took and create it using different images, in the form of a collage.

Modernizing a Piece
Sketchbook Drawing
I wanted to modernize the famous piece known as The Scream. I added in aspects that I believe would make the piece look like it was made today instead of decades ago.

Braid Drawing
Sketchbook Drawing
I did a braid study, analyzing the natural three strand braid.

Braid Drawing
Sketchbook Drawing
I did another braid study, this time from a different angle. I made sure to notice where the highlights and shadows appeared.

Braid Drawing
Sketchbook Drawing
I had an idea to have a fox standing looking forwards with its tail turning into a braid.

Braid Drawing
Sketchbook Drawing
Bouncing off my other idea, this time I wanted to turn the zebra's main into braid coming down the zebra's back.

Braid Drawing
Sketchbook Drawing
I took the peacock's feathers and decided to incorporate the braid into each strand.

Braid Drawing
Sketchbook Drawing
I really liked the peacock idea so I transferred it onto a large sheet of paper and tested some of the colour combinations on there.

Braid Drawing
Sketchbook Drawing
I did some experimenting with colour combinations for the braids and feathers.

Layers of Meaning
Sketchbook Drawing
The Italian wolf is Italy's national animal. I drew some sketches of it in different poses to use for my final piece.

Layers of Meaning
Sketchbook Drawing
I drew another sketch of the Italian wolf in a different pose.

Layers of Meaning
Sketchbook Drawing
For the symbol of my piece, I drew the Italian peninsula. One is just the outline the other has Italy written in the middle.

Layers of Meaning
Sketchbook Drawing
For the architecture component of this piece, I thought about doing the coliseum so I drew a sketch.

Layers of Meaning
Sketchbook Drawing
I wasn't a big fan of the coliseum idea so I though about doing the Apennine mountains in Italy instead.

Layers of Meaning
Sketchbook Drawing
I ended up creating the composition using the wolf howling, the mountains and the Italian peninsula.

Layers of Meaning
Sketchbook Drawing
This is the same as the other composition I just tried having the wolf in a different pose and the piece is also portrait instead of square.

Social Statement
Sketchbook Drawing
I drew the Earth with a giant hole in it to compare it to a trash can.

Social Statement
Sketchbook Drawing
Expanding from my other idea, I felt sometime was missing, so I played around with the nine zone grid and added a piece of trash.

Social Statement
Sketchbook Drawing
I had another idea to make the Earth look like an landfill. I have big mountains of trash coming out from the sides of the Earth.

Social Statement
Sketchbook Drawing
Bouncing off from my last idea, I just played around with the nine zone grid and thought that if I add a phrase it might make the piece come together.

Still Life.
Sketchbook Drawing
Before starting my still life drawing, I drew some shapes and experimented with light and shadows.

Still Life.
Sketchbook Drawing
I did a quick value sketch of my still life drawing to ensure that I had a proper mix of lights and darks.
