Art

Art has been a passion of mine for over a decade.  Over the years, I have been able to create a collection of pieces using different medias.  Below are just some of the many pieces I have created during my lifetime.

When creating this piece, I was inspired to create something based on nature and the environment around us.  That brought me to wanting to create a piece based on the different animals in the world.  I am a big animal lover.  I love wolves, foxes, tigers and so forth.  When coming up with ideas for this piece, I immediately found inspiration within these animals.  I found myself wanting to do a close up of these animals features and found myself creating a close up of a tiger's face.  While creating this piece, I went through several stages.  Finding inspiration, rough drafts, preliminary work and lastly the completion of the final piece.

Graphite Pencils and Coloured Drawing Pencils

I wanted to showcase a piece of myself, a piece of my personality in this self portrait.  I have a love or rather passion for art.  In this piece, I wanted to show how art takes me over and allows me to be extremely creative.  This can be seen through the paint brushes and colour blocks flowing from my hair.  During the process of creating this piece, I came across some very difficult decisions, one being when I was adding the colour to my hair.  I wanted the colour to flow well and blend with the graphite.  I found myself using Derwent Drawing Pencils rather than regular coloured pencils because they blended better and made the piece look whole.  I am very satisfied with the outcome of my piece as I was able to showcase who I am to the world.

When making this piece, I wanted to showcase the beauty behind every girl.  I started this piece by creating a preliminary sketch and composition sketch, to see where I wanted to place the focal point in the nine zone grid.  When it came to creating the final copy of the piece, I made sure to include small hearts on the girls cheeks to show how every girl is beautiful.  Every girl defines beauty and that beauty comes in all forms.

Graphite Pencils

When creating the composition for this piece, I wanted to show that I am a very artistic and hands on person.  I love learning and experiencing how to do new things.  Tying this into my composition, I wanted to show my creativity through music.  I love playing instruments and learning how to play my favourite songs in a variety of ways.  I have always wanted to be able to play songs on them expertly.  Overall, I wanted to showcase my love for music and the simplicity of the musical devices themselves, in my still life drawing.  I wanted to showcase the power of music and the effect it can have on one person.

Watercolour Pencils

In this piece, I wanted to showcase the issue of climate change, specifically littering and pollution.  World issue's are big motivator's for me, especially climate change.  I am very keen on protecting the environment and planet.  Through my piece, I wanted to show viewers what the effects of their actions really are on the world.  Through including the earth as a trash can and floating trash in the background, I was able to convey that we are not only harming our planet but everything around it as well, that our actions do not just affect us.

The Scream 'Revised'

The Scream 'Revised'

Watercolour Pencils

2020

11 inches by 15 inches

This piece was inspired by Edvard Munch's famous piece known as The Scream.  When creating this piece I wanted to take an old piece of art and modernize it.  In creating a modern version of The Scream, I was able to include world climate issues into my piece.  In doing so I was able to convey that this is what the world will look like if we don't put a stop to climate change.  The world will be in pain and nature will be destroyed.  Overall, I am satisficed with my piece as I was able to nicely modernize The Scream, while including world issues.

While creating this piece, I reached several bumps in the road that I was able to overcome.  I encountered challenges with the focal point (the big palm tree) and with the watercolour background.  I had to figure out how I was going to create the sunset in my piece without going through the big palm tree stem.  After testing out some ways to avoid this challenge, I decided to use a masking fluid pen to keep the colour of the palm tree stem white.  The masking fluid pen allowed me to create my piece the way I envisioned it, without having to worry about the watercolour spreading into the tree.  In the end, I was extremely satisfied with the outcome of my piece.

A Wolf's Perspective

Watercolour and Acrylic

When creating this piece, I started by drawing each of the components of this piece separately before creating my composition.  When I came up with the idea's for this piece, I wanted to convey to viewers that everything in the piece is apart of Italy and makes up a piece of Italy's heart.  When painting the wolf in the piece, I wish I could have added more detail and properly illustrated the fur on the animal but overall I am happy with the outcome of the piece.

When creating this piece, I found it difficult to nicely draw clean strokes on my phone as I did not have a pen to make my digital art piece.  Although, after some practice I was able to get used to the feel of the technology and of the tools leading me to overall be satisfied with the outcome of this digital art piece.

Coloured Pencil Crayons

2020

15 inches by 11 inches

I experienced some frustrations when colouring my piece.  While shading in some of the braids, some of my blue pencil crayons started to become really short and began to run out.  I was extremely terrified that some of the colours I was using would run out and that I would not be able to finish my piece with the same colours I started with.  Fortunately, I was able to resolve this tension through colouring lighter and doing more layering as well as sharpening my pencil crayons less.  Overall I was able to finish the piece in the way I envisioned.
